Style File: Fur Vests

The fur vest is a piece seen consistently on fall runways the past few seasons. It was seen in the Autumn/Winter 2009 RTW collections of Milly, Ralph Lauren, and Oscar de la Renta, each with unique flare. The fur vest probably gained most of its street-cred thanks to celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe who exemplifies how to wear the vest in a way that’s effortless yet polished.

So sure, the fur vest appears to be undeniably cute—but how does one exactly wear it?

In today’s style file, we’re breaking down three essential steps to assembling the perfect look with the fur vest, all centered around our hero piece, the Eternal Child Fur Vest ($420).

1. THE VEST-MENT: Step one clearly is the central focus, the fur vest itself. We love the Fur Vest by Eternal Child ($420) for it’s non-bulky shape and ideal lower-hip length. It’s an investment worth indulging in because you will be able to wear with in many ways and for many years to come.

2. FOUNDATION: Creating the foundation layers that go beneath the vest is a matter of preference. If you like slacks, you should choose a blouse that won’t steal the show. Stick with solid colors and shirts that tuck in easily. With a neutral-colored pant, add a pop of autumn color like red, burgundy, cream, or forest green. Take a cue from Zoe and choose dark-wash, wide-legged denim. If skirts are your thing, choose a neutral, structured skirt as done on the Milly runway, and tuck in a fun patterned blouse, like the Printed Illusion Top by WINK ($195). The idea is to keep your foundation pieces tucked in close to your body so that your silhouette isn’t lost underneath the vest. With skirts and dresses (try the Aaron Ashe Area No. 3 Dress as seen on our model) tights are a must—we’d go with some ribbed tights and a cute ankle bootie like the Alexandre BirmanAnkle Booties ($365).

3. ACCESSORIZE: You may want to leave the vest hanging open like Zoe, but another way to streamline your vest is to cinch a skinny belt around your waist. Try the Emerald Snake Belt by Streets Ahead ($120) to pull together your look.
Ta-Da! You look fur-rific!

In this week’s Style File, when a LIVE! On Sunset stylist picks their favorite outfit in the store and tells us why, Yana chose this chic, edgy, yet feminine look.  The influence for her look was Parisian Street Fashion and she chose a classic black look with splashes of color.  Yana, who enjoys traveling, chose an outfit that is perfect for roaming the streets of Paris.  She paired the David Lerner Half Rip Leggings, $100, with some other sexy black staples including the K Allen sheer boyfriend pocket tee, $52, and the Nanushka Mini Onion Skirt, $198, and lastly the Crispin and Basilio Cropped Leather Jacket with over size collar.

To add pops of color to this look, Yana accessorized with the light weight perfect for summer Missoni scarf in blues, teals, and purples.  This knit scarf that retails for $326 is bound to be a favorite of yours.  She also added the super hot leather fringe bag by Berenice in mauve thats on sale for $111.  She completed the look with three fun bangles, two pyramid leather bangles by WIN, $280 for the large and $200 for the small, and the Susan Hanover crystal cuff for $178.

Yana loves mini skirts but not showing too much leg.  By pairing this teeny tiny mini with the edgy David Lerner leggings, she achieves the style she’s looking for with a sexy and edgy flair.  Also a huge fan of leather jackets, since they are perfect for day time looks or can be dressed up for evening styles, this cropped leather is the perfect layer for cool mornings and evenings, which as any seasoned traveler knows, its always important to have a sexy yet comfortable layer with you.

Every week at LIVE! On Sunset were going to have a stylist pick their favorite outfit in the store and have them tell us why.  All of our stylists have such a unique and incredible personal style and fashion point of view, so we want to share their inspirations and ideas with you.

Jen, our first stylist who picked out an outfit, chose a look that’s equally edgy and sophisticated.  First, she picked the David Lerner ripped leggings  that came into the store this morning and retail for $100.  Jen loves these leggings, not only because they look amazing on and are a cool new spin on the classic legging, but also because they are a great price for such a fun edgy piece.

filePerfect with fabulous heels for a night out, these leggings are a guaranteed head turner.  Jens personal style is all about comfort so she thinks these paired with a cool sexy tank are the ideal outfit.  She paired the leggings with another new arrival to the store, the K Allyn tank with an over-sized boyfriend pocket.  This tank, which retails at $52 is equally comfortable and sexy and is perfect for day or night.

She pairs the tank and leggings with this amazing boyfriend blazer by Drew. This blazer which retails for $195 sold out completely on the first day, but fear not, we’ve ordered more.  It is lined with silk pinstripe details and looks amazing cuffed.  Any one who knows Jen knows that she loves jewelry, especially necklaces.  It comes as no shock that she chose this amazing Erikson Beamon SJP necklace that retails for $900 as apart of her look.  This necklace combines a variety of metals with crystals and pearls truly making it a piece that should be in every girls closet.

Lastly, as a true vintage lover, Jen always adds vintage pieces to each look.  This vintage snakeskin Judith Leiber bag, at $175, rounds out this sophisticated and edgy look perfectly.
